A cake break, with interesting conversation, then to new mixing of Starless And Bible Black in stereo. The original release is now superseded. We’ll Let You Know (live improv in Glasgow at Green’s) signals an increasingly muscular band, following Jamie’s departure, and from a group together for less than a year. The Nightwatch belongs in a different space, with echoes of a particular Crim pastoralism more obvious in Cadence & Cascade (from ITWOP) and Lady Of The Dancing Water (from Lizard). Book Of Saturday is also close to this sense of an English pastorale, but with its own special space; eg action not quite commingling with shepherds & their flocks, not quite taking place within a rustic idyll, and some three of four centuries late in arriving.
